Five generations ago, in 1867, great-great grandfather Scheiderer began dairying
and since then the herd has developed into today's registered, purebred Jersey herd.
Every animal in our closed herd is bred and raised on the beautiful grass covered
hills of Monroe County, Ohio.  Each cow has her own birth to death health record, and
is identified not only with an ID number, but a family name that may trace back many
generations...names like Edna, Connie, Molly or Fontaine.

Our families have always advanced the logic of Green Earth Methods in sustainable
agriculture.  Although changes occur daily, it is always with the insight that healthy,
happy cows make strong family farm dairies.  The cows enjoy pulsing green pasture
grass and sunshine from spring through fall.  This is the only seasons we make
cheese.  In cold, rainy winter, they enjoy a comfort stall barn and are fed natural grass
hay with well-balanced grain. Our cows are not supplemented with rbST.  This
makes rich Jersey milk that has better nutritional levels.

You will taste subtle differences in cheeses made during different seasons.

Jake and Dixie Scheiderer started the cheese making several years ago, and have
recently moved on to Kentucky where they are planning on milking a few Jersey
cows.  Jake and Dixie are the original founders and creators of
The Ohio Farmstead -
Artisan
Cheese Guild.  Both, Al and Renae are executive board members of the guild,
Al as secretary and Renae as treasurer.

Al and I (Renae) took over the cheese business in the fall of 2007, and look forward
to learning more each year, and enjoy bringing a delicious, healthy product to you!
